Great ad from Apple for the iphone 4s, supporting the idea that santa isn’t as old fashioned as some may think, his moving with the times. This is really rather enjoyable, seeing that santa has a humorous relationship with Mrs Claus and that he uses the iPhone to its greatest ability. Apple hasn’t done anything of this nature before, its pleasant to see that even after Steve Job’s passing that its ads still rival and interest. Like the other iPhone 4s adverts they highlight the things Siri can do you help people in every day life, but this time with a seasonal twist.

This is the Jack Daniels Whiskey advert for Christmas 2011, it’s subtle and excellent, original and creative. It shows workers from the distillery working together to build a christmas tree out of the whiskey barrels. Each barrel is chosen carefully and finally decorated once all the barrels put together resemble a tree. Its shows the togetherness and family joy at christmas. That christmas isn’t about whats under the tree but the people that surround it, that make christmas a joyful family affair. A simple message beautifully communicated.

Another Christmas advert this time from Vodafone, I like the concept, the idea that christmas is about the little things, the love that families and friends share with each other. When things seem bad its the little moments and thoughtful things we do for each other that turn everything around. In this advert I especially enjoy the parts where the taxi drive has a song on the radio dedicated to him and the women finds her drive wind screen already scrapped of frost. It sets the theme that it can take very little effort to make someone happy. This ad shows serval situations where the small things can make someone happy.

As I have mentioned before John lewis is one of favourite brands in terms of advertising their ads really strike a chord with me and many others a like. To add to it all Christmas is the best time of year for advertising the majority of big brands and stores bring their A game to promote themselves and in my opinion it a time when T.V ads still attract mass audiences.

This particular ad from John Lewis keeps in theme with their pervious material, pulling at the emotional heart strings and hitting a soft spot in each and everyone of us. However, news from the grapevine suggests this particular advert is upsetting a few hardcore Smiths fans. ‘Please, please, please, let me get what I want’ is the song originally recorded by The Smiths and recorded for John Lewis many people have said Morrissey and Marr have sold out or gone against the grain for which the song and the band represented. This being said it still makes a beautiful ad and has the ability to make the toughest men stop for a second and appreciate the little boys longing for christmas day.

On a side note John lewis retail Youtube page (http://www.youtube.com/user/JohnLewisRetail) set up a integrated campaign to get consumers involved with the campaign and watching the site. John Lewis retail will be releasing a series of 12 videos for people to guess the gift, if you enter your details online you can get a chance to win that gift.

As previously written about in M&S Autumn Winter, I mentioned Xfactor finalists would be singing ‘When you wish upon a star’ in the 2011 M&S christmas advert. Above is said ad, I think its subtle yet effective, lovely start to the christmas ad season.
